Reiki Healing Sessions

How is a Reiki treatment given?

In a standard treatment Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client. The client is usually laying on a massage table but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. The client remains fully clothed. The practitioner places her/his hands on or near the clients body in a series of hand positions. These include positions around the head and shoulders, the stomach, and feet. Other, more specific positions may be used based on the clients needs. Each position is held for three to ten minutes depending on how much Reiki the client needs at each position. The whole treatment usually lasts between 45 and 90 minutes

No. Reiki works in conjunction with regular medical or psychological treatment. If one has a medical or psychological condition, it is recommended that one see a licensed health care professional in addition to receiving Reiki treatments. Reiki energy works in harmony with all other forms of healing, including drugs, surgery, psychological care or any other method of alternative care and will improve the results

Most of the time a person will feel relaxed and uplifted by a Reiki treatment. However, sometimes a person will have what is called a healing crisis. As a person’s vibration goes up, toxins that have been stored in the body will be released into the blood stream to be filtered by the liver and kidneys and removed from the system. When this happens, sometimes a person can get a headache or stomach ache or feel weak. If this happens, it is a good idea to drink more water, eat lighter meals and get more rest. The body is cleansing as part of the healing process so this is a good sign

As Reiki is gentle and noninvasive, it’s really safe for everyone, says Vickie Bodner, a licensed massage therapist and Reiki master in the Center for Integrative Medicine at Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. People most commonly seek Reiki to help them prepare for or recover from surgery, manage stress and anxiety, cope with the loss of a loved one, or as an adjunct to professional medical care, such as cancer treatment, Bodner says. Some people seek Reiki for supportive touch when they feel alone in dealing with troubling situations, she adds.

Wear comfortable clothes that you can relax in. If you’re coming from the office, feel free to bring a change of clothes — just be sure to check with the practitioner before your session to make sure there’s a place for you to change. Miles recommends dressing in layers so you can add or remove clothing during the session, if needed.

Finally, make sure you remove belts and other bulky items before the session starts.

Sometimes one Reiki session is enough to resolve whatever the issue is, and sometimes it takes several sessions. Your Reiki practitioner may be able to give you a better idea of how often you should go, depending on the issue you’d like to address.

You can space out the sessions according to your needs and schedule. The University of Minnesota recommends trying out at least four sessions to evaluate potential benefits of the practice.

Keep in mind, people also choose to use Reiki as almost a tune-up.  This means that they get a treatment on a regular basis to keep in a regulated emotional state

Sessions required totally depends on the reason of treatment and client’s ability to respond to Reiki. Each individual responds differently to Reiki treatment. Some problems may need couple of sessions, some may need more and some even takes months to heal. Length of the Reiki session totally depends on root cause of the problem as Reiki heals a person as a whole: body, mind and emotions.

Every Reiki experience differs from person to person, healer to healer, treatment to treatment. Some feel heat, some feel coolness, some gets visions, some falls asleep, some may get vibrations or some may break-down and cry. Again, it is not necessary that everyone feels something. Some may feel nothing. If your client feels nothing, assure him that Reiki always work no matter what. For distance healing too, client may feel any of the above or may not feel anything.

How Does Reiki Help People?

Reiki is a type of energy work that originated in Japan. It’s a simple method of light touch that is based on the Asian concept of ki or life energy. A session feels like a glowing radiance that flows through and around you. The experience is very soothing and results in the client entering a wonderful state of relaxation in which one’s worries and cares seem to melt away

Mrs. Hawayo Takata (Takata Sensei) brought Reiki from Japan to the West in 1937 and continued to practice and teach until her passing in 1980. Because of her devotion, Reiki has been passed on to millions of people all over the world, and the numbers continue to grow! And as you will see, if it wasn’t for her, Reiki most likely would never have been discovered by the West and even in Japan would have been practiced secretly by only a small number of people.
